Crinkle Super Bag

Description:
This ceramic vase is sculpted to resemble a crinkled paper bag. Designer Makoto Komatsu plays with form and texture in this piece, and pairs a soft appearance with a firm material in a way that will add an element of surprise to your home. Along with other pieces from the “Crinkle/Crumple” series, this 1975 design is in MOMA’s permanent collection.

Variation:
Ceramic is a natural material that will patina over time. This patina may appear as discoloration and darkening from food contact, or it may also appear as ceramic crazing, which are small cracks that start to develop over time from hot liquids.

History: 
Ceramic Japan has been manufacturing ceramic pieces in Seto, Japan since 1973. Known for collaborating with top level artists and designers, Ceramic Japan pairs high artistic quality with traditional ceramic techniques. Many designs from Ceramic Japan are held in MOMA’s permanent collection. Frequent Ceramic Japan collaborator Makoto Komatsu describes the “Crinkle/Crumple” series as the most important work of his career. The line was inspired by accidental paper imprints he would notice on plaster molds used for mass producing ceramics.
