Description:
Asahi built the belted low leather shoe based on an old design that used canvas tape in an effort to keep the rubber sole and leather upper intact while playing sports. By stitching a cotton herringbone belt between the 2 incompatible materials, Asahi created the ultimate long-lasting seal, and a new durable sneaker backed by artisanal skills.

Measurements:

History:

Older than most American shoe brands, Asahi Shoes were Nike’s primary sneaker manufacturer in the 1970’s and 80’s, and pivotal in creating Nike’s iconic ‘Blazer’ and ‘Bruin’ that have long been Nike mainstays. Since they first began production in 1892, Asahi Shoes have been almost entirely handmade in Kurume, Japan, using labor-intensive vulcanizing methods. They’re also the originators of the herringbone technique that revolutionized the production of suede and leather trainers globally.

Materials:
Upper – Leather, canvas
Sole – Vulcanized rubber

Variation:
Shoe size tends to run 1 size big for women’s and can be slightly bigger than true to size for men. Due to their almost entirely handmade nature, there may be slight variation in the rubber and canvas.

Care Instructions:
Do not machine wash. Spot clean and hand-wash only.

Returns must be made within 2 weeks in original, unused condition with all packaging for either 1. Store credit for the full amount or 2. Refund – minus a 20% restocking fee. Tortoise does not cover the cost of return shipping or the cost of re-shipping an exchange, and the cost of shipping for returns and exchanges is the responsibility of the customer.
